Collaboration with Isotopx

The collaboration between Sercon Instruments and Isotopx that led to the development of SIRIX IRMS, a new solution for clumped isotopes and small carbonates, has its roots back in 2004, when Sercon’s Director Garry Armstrong, worked at GV Instruments alongside several who are now in key positions at Isotopx.

Dr Zenon Palacz, MD of Isotopx, reconnected with Garry after he rejoined Sercon in 2019 allowing the opportunity for collaborative discussion and product development.

So when Isotopx were looking for a partner for Inlet development and production early last year, Garry and Sercon Instruments were a natural choice. Not only do Sercon have the technical expertise and the products, but the relationships between key players also already existed.

The two companies share a similar ethos around new product development, which has enabled the rapid development of SIRIX IRMS, a new solution for clumped isotopes and small carbonates, a powerful collaboration between Sercon Instruments and Isotopx.

“This instrument offers unparalleled sensitivity, resolution, and precision for characterizing CO2 isotopologues, opening up applications such as past climate reconstruction via carbonate materials” explained Garry. “Collaborations like this one with Isotopx, can fast track improvements available to researchers around the world and provide instruments which offer deeper insight.”
