Installation visit to Greece
Henry Cooke and Tom Iordanidis conducted a joint installation visit for Christina Papageorgopoulo at the Laboratory of Physical Anthropology, part of the Democritus University of Thrace in Komotini, Greece in May.
The installation of the new PyroEArth and HS2022 support’s the labs’s paleonutrition research using LA-IRMS, and will provide N, C, S, O and H isotope ratio analysis and will be used to study the diets of ancient people, using bones found during excavations for the Thessaloniki metro area.
The visit also served as a training exercise, with Henry overseeing Tom’s first non-UK installation.
While in Greece, the pair enjoyed the local food and culture of Komotini and Thessaloniki, including seeing the excavation site in Thessaloniki in which the bones our instrumentation will be analysing were found (see photos below).
