Thomas Iordanidis
Thomas Iordanidis joined the Sercon Instruments team in February this year, from Key Forensics. Having spent two years working in the lab, he developed a fascination for the instrumentation, which led him to apply for a Service Engineer role at Sercon.
With a background and first class degree in Analytical Chemistry and Forensic Science at Coventry University, working at Sercon places Thomas with a like-minded team led by Simon Moseley. He’s a fast learner and after 2 months of training, Thomas has already completed his first solo customer visit, to install a replacement part in one of the instrument installations at Synlab in Belgium.
His planned schedule already includes service trips to Paris, Antwerp and Switzerland, as well as an installation in Greece planned for May (being fully bi-lingual, we anticipate that most of our service and engineering visits to Greece may fall to him!).
Thomas enjoys the travel aspect of the job as well as the engineering, so we are looking forward to many mini travelogues as part of his visit reports, joining Henry Cooke, Dave Harris and Rob Kameny in sharing their travel photos and experiences as well as the details of their work! He is particularly looking forward to his assignments taking him beyond Europe.
The science behind the instrumentation is also of fascination to Thomas, as it is to most of the Sercon team, including the laser ablation IRMS technique development that everyone is talking about.
Thomas first came to the UK eleven years ago with his family when his father relocated for work. When he arrived, he didn’t speak a word of English, a real challenge for a teenager in a new country and new school. These days he commutes from Warrington and enjoys holidays in Greece and Italy with his girlfriend and family.
