T-Level Placement Student from Crewe UTC

Maheen Jamil, an engineering student at Crewe UTC has just completed her second T-Level placement at Sercon, where she has had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of the manufacturing and production processes involved in building complex scientific instruments.

As part of her training, she contributed to the complete build of an HS2022 system, which allowed her to understand the instrument’s design and functionality from the ground up.

We asked Maheen to tell us what the Sercon experience has added to her studies:

“My T-Level placement at Sercon has been an incredibly valuable and inspiring experience. From the very start, I was made to feel part of the team and was encouraged to get involved in meaningful, hands-on work rather than just observing. This gave me a real insight into how professional engineering and manufacturing processes operate on a day-to-day basis.

“The team at Sercon were extremely supportive and took the time to explain how different systems and equipment function, which helped me strengthen both my technical understanding and practical skills. I was also able to develop important workplace abilities such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.

“Overall, my experience at Sercon confirmed my passion for engineering and gave me a clearer understanding of how the knowledge I’ve gained in my T-Level studies applies in a real industrial setting. I’m really grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from such an experienced and welcoming team, and I believe the skills and confidence I’ve gained will be a strong foundation for my future career.”

Operations Manager Simon Moseley commented on Maheen’s  placement: “This opportunity has not only enhanced Maheen’s technical capabilities but should also have given her valuable insight into the collaborative and detail-oriented nature of instrument production at Sercon.”
