University of Aberdeen Instrument Upgrade
On a recent visit to the lab at the School of Biological sciences, Aberdeen University, Senior Field Service & Installation Engineer David Harris delivered a Turbo Pump & Prep PCB Upgrade on a 20-20 + GSL + Trace Gas II system.
Nicole Cochrane, Research Technician, booked the job involved upgrading Aberdeen’s old 20-20 with new turbo pumps and upgrading the prep PCB on the GSL system.
The system had been out of use for some time, so as part of his visit, Dave performed system functionality testing on the equipment, including the Trace Gas II.
Aside from the functional benefits of the new prep board, Dave also optimised the instrument layout to improve access for maintenance.
Planned University research on the site will be looking at plant and soil samples using the GSL combustion method, using the Trace Gas II to measure changes in CO2 & N2 in plant-based headspace samples. They also plan to look at possible new research which they can carry out in N2O analysis with their upgraded Trace Gas II system.
During his visit to Aberdeen, Dave visited St Machar Bar for its famous whisky selection and enjoyed the award-winning pies at Thain’s late night bakery.
