UNSA Workshops
Ready access to stable isotope measurement facilities by academic institutions, industry, and government agencies is lacking in many parts of the world, including Latin America.
Over the past 5 years the University of Oklahoma (OU) and the Universidad Nacional de San Agustin de Arequipa (UNSA) have worked together to build linked, cutting-edge stable isotope measurement facilities with shared training, SOPs, demonstration field sites, and collaborative research addressing their region’s shared sustainability challenges.
The OU’s Stable Isotope Measurement Facility (SIMF) is currently hosting faculty and staff from UNSA’s LABISOP, the only open stable isotope facility in the Peruvian public university system, for research development and enhanced technical training.
SIMF and LABISOP directors Prof. Tim Filley (OU) and Prof. Juan Lopa also jointly support collaborative research between OU and UNSA through the Arequipa Global Change and Human Health Institute (GCHHI) – a bilaterial research program between UNSA and OU that facilitates solutions-oriented knowledge creation in areas soil health, atmospheric chemistry, crop irrigation management, water quality, and greenhouse accounting. Areas important for Arequipa and Oklahoma.
Sercon Instruments has been a long-term supporter of the OU-UNSA isotope stable isotope partnership and was there for the ground floor construction and launch of the facility at UNSA. We provide continued logistical support and training to help keep the OU-UNSA partnership moving forward and provide world class stable isotope capability to Peru and broader region.
