As we all approach the start of the scientific community’s conference and events season, Sercon’s Su Rotheram is working on all the behind the scenes preparation needed for Director Garry Armstrong and Business Development Manager Mark Gibson to make the most of every event the company is planning to attend this year.
Su, who is based at Sercon’s Head Office in Crewe, and is also responsible for ecommerce consumables sales is finalising stand development and merchandise, as well as shipping where the events are overseas.
In a business where long service is the norm, Su is a relative newcomer, having joined the business a couple of years ago. Her background is in high end high street and online retail. After 16 years she was looking for a fresh challenge, where she could put her understanding of consumable sales to good use in a non-retail environment.
Su explained how the transition has worked for her: “Sercon is a lovely working environment, and much calmer than I was used to in high street retail. Being able to focus on customer service, in the UK and around the world, without the immediate demands of retail line management, shoplifting and all the other distractions of retail is great, and I love being able to build longer term relationships with our customers, compared to the very transactional nature of the high street.”
Living locally, Su enjoys live music and city breaks with friends – Edinburgh and the Fringe Festival being particular favourites.
