Successful Quality Audit

Quality audits can sound ever so slightly dull, but when you are manufacturing high value and high precision scientific instruments, compliance to quality standards is a critical requirement and never just a tick box exercise.

“The audit covers every aspect of our operation from Sales to aftercare and everything in between,” commented Service Manager @Simon Moseley. “So it’s always a bit nerve wracking when your internal focus on quality and continual improvement across the board is subjected to external scrutiny”.

Last week saw an audit of the compliance of Sercon’s Quality Management Systems against two separate ISO accreditations:

ISO 9001:2015
Design, manufacture, installation and support of isotope ratio mass spectrometers and their associated sample preparation systems.

ISO 13485:2016
Design, manufacture, installation and support of isotope ratio mass spectrometers for diagnostic medical purposes.

Auditors recommended continued certification on both, also noting that continual improvement was evident in the review and management of the company’s Quality Management Systems.

Director @Mark O’Connor is delighted but unsurprised by the outcome of last week’s audits: “We’re a small company and our Quality Management Systems are deeply embedded across the business – every member of our team understands the importance of compliance and continual improvement in their role.”
